Strategies for Men

Guys, I’ll be honest and tell you what no one else (at least in my profession) will: Your odds of success on any of the major dating apps are terrible.

The fact is most women in the Bay Area are receiving hundreds of likes per week. Imagine how that could stack up over time—e.g. thousands of likes. That is some very intense competition. And if your profile is filled with nothing but lonely-looking selfies, you don’t stand a chance. All of that swiping and hoping is just a waste of your time.

So, what can be done?

First, get better pictures. This isn’t a panacea, but it will give you a fighting chance. You shouldn’t have a single selfie anywhere in your profile. Each picture you upload tells a story about who you are, and a selfie tells her that you don’t have any friends. Is that the first impression you want to make? Probably not.

At the same time, you don’t want to hire a traditional portrait photographer either, because those pictures will look obviously staged and professional. This will either send the same message as the selfies (no friends) or they will reek of narcissism. Either way, that’s a bad first impression.

It is also critical that you avoid looking scary. Plenty of men feel they need to look like a tough guy in their photos, but this always backfires. The key is to look approachable. Consider these two photos from a recent shoot:

In the picture on the left, the guy looks like he’s on guard duty and vaguely threatening. He looks like someone you want to avoid. In the picture on the right, he looks friendly and approachable. Now, he looks like someone you’d like to know.

ALL YOUR PICTURES should convey a similar message to the photo on the right. This will lead to far more matches than the photo on the left.

The second thing I would recommend is to stop wasting your money on paying monthly membership fees. Most studies indicate that paid memberships don’t improve your matches at all. Instead, if you’re going to spend money, I’d recommend buying “Super Swipes,” “Super Likes,” “Roses,” etc…, as those features will at least ensure that your profile is seen. Yet once again, the competition is still intense, so you better have great pictures. If not, then you’re just wasting your time and money.

So, if you decide to hire me for a photoshoot, I will do everything I can to show you in the best possible light; I’ll do everything I can to showcase your personality; and most of all, I’ll do everything I can to tell a story about who you are as a person. A lot of women will find that highly refreshing after flipping through an endless parade of selfies and phony-looking photoshoots.
